Triumf żywiołu. Sztormy na Bałtyku u schyłku średniowiecza
Celem wystąpienia jest ukazanie możliwości odtworzenia przebiegu sztormów na podstawie źródeł późnośredniowiecznych pochodzących z miast nadbałtyckich, wskazanie na zniszczenia powodowane przez sztormy, na reakcje ludzi i wyjaśnienia, które dotyczyły tego rodzaju zjawisk meteorologicznych. Zagadnienia te wiążą się z historią klimatu, historią gospodarczą i historią kultury w późnym średniowieczu.

Profesor UMK w Toruniu, pracownik Wydziału Nauk Historycznych Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu. Jest członkiem centrum badawczego Climate Change Research Centre. Zajmuje się historią średniowiecza i klimatologią historyczną.

The triumph of the element. Storms in the Baltic Sea in the Late Middle Ages
The aim of the speech is to demonstrate the possibility of reconstructing the course of the storms based on late medieval sources from the Baltic towns, pointing out the damage caused by the storms, the reactions of people, and the explanations of this type of meteorological phenomena. These issues are related to the history of climate, history of economy and history of culture in the late Middle Ages.
